I hugely enjoyed playing as him when the game first came out and I was still an edgy teen. Now I think his shtick gets old quite quick but in a way he’s a good representation of what GTA is about in general.

I hated him. No character development, same asshole from start to finish. Whenever I had to do Trevor missions I often walked away from the game for the day, resulting in taking many months to actually finish the kind of game I usually enjoy.

Franklin was boring too, sterotype with no strong opinions on much - just went with the flow on everything. The only character I kind of enjoyed playing was Michael, and that’s because he was aware that he was a piece of shit and decided to try to change. His approach to mending his relationship with his family was terrible and often put them in riskier/worse situations, but hey it’s GTA it’s not meant to be entirely realistic.

I remember being a lot more invested in GTA4 and thoroughly enjoyed that narrative, but maybe it’s rose tinted glasses?

one of my favourite conversations in the game is about how he’s not just crazy, he’s carefully choosing how he’s perceived. and he gets real titchy when michael confronts him about that fact.

there’s more to the guy than first appears.

That content made me laugh so hard back in 2013. Maybe because I was an adult hipster in tweed and square glasses. Got round glasses now, so some things change 🤓

It’s not as funny today, though.

the animation of him crying with the one toy at the tree is good. like he realized that his best isn’t good enough and his partnership with Michael is what made him fulfilled. they were the perfect Ying Yang

  • He is exactly like every meth head I’ve had to deal with IRL. I hate him. Even as a character, I hate him, since he is also supposed to represent the player on a more metaphysical level. Rockstar basically is saying gamers are methheads with Trevor.

I disagree with that the characters are there to represent the player. The way I see it the characters are there so the player can interpret that character.

Like how different actors would give different interpretations of the same character.

I have an uncomfortable love hate for the guy. First thing I always have to do is change his fucking cloths and get a haircut…

he is by far the most realistic character though. Crazy meth head and trailer park trash. I have been around a few people that were high as fuck on meth and they acted just like him. Thankfully they didn’t have access to guns.

He would’ve been an amazing side character but he’s my least favorite main character

Agreed - it’s hard to ever feel any empathy with him, and so missions as him are much less enjoyable IMO. He’s a horrible person doing horrible things with no greater cause to even try to justify it.

Loved him, in the context of GTA, it’s a violent satire of American life and he fits both that AND the players of GTA. I also liked saints row for that reason. When you just want to go be a menence both games give you the tools and framing to do so

I enjoyed the character. In terms of alignment, Michael is neutral, Franklin is good, Trevor is chaos. Each has a deep backstory, each is uniquely flawed. Each is a mood.

I didn’t utilize their powers all that much, game can be enjoyed without them.

I’ve never engaged with the story in any GTA game. I just boot it up once in a moon, massacre as many cops as possible before they overwhelm me.
