Claims are ‘an unsophisticated, uneducated approach that demonstrates a lack of knowledge’, says one professor

US law enforcement officials have claimed that the use of certain emojis could signal affiliation with Tren de Aragua (TdA), a Venezuelan gang, according to internal records reviewed by the Guardian.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the US army and other agencies have alleged in briefings, threat warnings and training materials for law enforcement that specific symbols used on social media are associated with Tren de Aragua, a group Donald Trump has regularly cited to support his immigration crackdown.

The emoji claims, repeated by the New York police department (NYPD), were made in four reports disseminated among law enforcement in 2024 and 2025 and obtained through records requests by Property of the People, a government transparency non-profit.

TdA or, like, a child’s birthday party.

FFS, just say that it’s use of the letters RSTLN and E and make it arbitrary as fuck in a way that doesn’t dance around the point we all know you’re trying to make.

Police departments in cities all over the country have used absolute bullshit to call people who only made the mistake of being born into “bad” neighborhoods gang members for years

Revealed: ICE and Domestic police forces are groups of unwitting and intentional bigots and murderers. Because if they protect property/rich property owners over other citizens, they have no claim to “serve and protect” they are just a fascist tool in their current role.
Feed an officer a roach or fly in that discounted meal, especially if they’re bigots! ICE ICE baby.

That’s good for funding. You invent an arbitrary reason to include everyone who used a strawberry emoji into a potential suspects list, and now you are a hero fighting overwhelming forces, so you need larger budget and more people. It’s almost like saying to your boss that every day that ends with Y should be your paid day off. It’s just these claims aren’t only okay, they are beneficial to the administration.
