Christopher Sands, director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Canadian Studies in Washington, said it’s not a surprise Canadian antipathy toward the U.S. has not gotten any better — the 51st state talk is gone but the tariffs are still wreaking havoc.

I don’t give a fuck about the tarrifs. 51st shit you only have to say once and I’m fuckin’ done.

It’s not only the 51st state shit but their continued gaslighting to make it seem like Canada has always been the aggressor.

The U.S. ambassador to Canada said this a few days ago:

“You ran a campaign where it was anti-American, elbows up, me too. You know, that was an anti-American campaign. That has continued. That’s disappointing.”

Excuse me? Canada ran a campaign? You trash talk Canada, our PM, our citizens, tell lies about drugs coming across our border, and start a trade war with us and you expect us to just forget it? There was no campaign. This was Canada reacting to US aggression they haven’t stopped. Fuck the US. It’s going to take years to fix what they’ve done.

Until then, I just took a shit. The Americans can eat it.

And he shat himself. Some say it’s because he heard Trump shit his diaper and did it to match his leader. Some say it’s because he was completely unprepared for the responsibility and shat himself out of fear. But everyone agrees he shat himself and has no idea what to do next.

Exactly. People are being abducted off the street by plainclothes “officers” (who’s to know?), put in the back of unmarked cars, and disappeared. A Canadian died in detainment from being denied access to live-saving prescription medication.

Tariffs are so far down my list of reasons for not traveling to the US.

If Mr. Sands thUnKs this is mostly about tariffs, he does not understand his subject very well.

I have more than one piece of clothing that says Never 51. I do not have any anti-tariff propaganda.

Do not get me wrong. The tariffs are destructive and wrong. But I am not emotional about them.

    Well done canucks!

A spokesperson for the company said there’s been notable spike in viewership for homegrown programs like … Murdoch Mysteries (44 per cent) … so far this year compared to the same period in 2024.

    This is us!

Keep up the good work, my northern friends! I’m trying to divest, go to protests, and be my authentic self, but that’s not enough. If we’re lucky we can fight this war economically without it blowing up into armed conflict.

Organize on the left. I genuinely think that’s the only way. Same for us actually. Chances are we’re going fascist in a few years if we don’t change course.

E: I mean, you’re on Blahaj so prolly no need for me to say any of this. 🤗

Please allow me to have this mini rant, I’m not attacking op, because it’s an informative article.

I just cannot fucking stand it when an article needs to tell me when things are jaw-dropping, stunning, shocking, mind bending. Fuck off with this bullshit, report the facts to me, let me decide how I feel about things. None of this is shocking or jaw dropping or unexpected, to anybody reasonably following affairs.

I agree. So much is just talking about what’s being talked about and who’s saying it. I’m old… so I’m not so naive to think it ever wasn’t this way. But I definitely noticed a trend starting about 15 years ago… A precipitous drop in investigative journalism, and news cycle workers leaning on content from social media for their content.

I will give a bit more credit to the posted article. At least it presented information and facts. Overall though I didn’t feel like it gave the audience much credit. Also felt like they wanted to pad it with dead-horse topics like alcohol/travel news-memes instead of giving a broader overview, or wider scope of areas impacted/advantaged. This article wouldn’t have passed 25 years ago, how sad that its among the better I’ve seen recently… sad face.

No kidding. Until they elect a new FDR or equivalent, you know there’s a 30% chance they’re a fascist and a 30% chance they’re a fascist collaborator.

Like… the majority of them were okay with this. An overwhelming majority if you factor in those eligible to vote who didn’t. Up until a bunch of them start getting hit by the tariffs and stuff, they didn’t really care either. “Canada, eh? Who cares.” I’ve basically been stuck in a situation in my head where I’m like “I want to be polite so I don’t want to just blatantly ask “Did you vote and if so who for?” but Idk what to say”

I don’t think it’s impolite. As an American migrant to a foreign country, it’s one of the first things most Americans ask each other.

I wouldn’t. I’d be absurdly charitable. People are primarily shaped by their material circumstances. Can you blame a fucker that got like 20% of your education? Be charitable to regular people even if the odds are they’re a fascist/collaboraror. These people face the same material issues as most of us do. They are also same people are the ones who can and would likely bring change for the better. And they often aren’t zealous believers in the party line.

That doesn’t mean on the whole we shouldn’t keep elbows up. Especially because we generally interact with American corporations, not this or that poor, healthcareless bastard.

            Yes.

I’m not being kind to someone who hates my country just because the reason for hating my country is ignorance. I’m tired and I’m angry and I’m not going to extend an olive branch to someone who wants me, as a gay autistic dude, dead. At least that’s how it shows through their voting habits.

Their voting actions speak a lot louder than the rude words I’d say and if they got their feelings hurt then I could give less of a fuck when I’ve had friends already die from their flagrant stupidity.

Remember in Saving Private Ryan when Captain Miller showed mercy to the German soldier?

Captain Miller spares the soldier. Later in the movie, that same soldier shoots Captain Miller.

70% of Americans directly participated in the election of Donald Trump. They “can and would likely bring change for the better” my ass.

I am Canadian. I have spent my life giving everybody the benefit of the doubt. But not nazis. And, since the beginning of this year, not Americans.

Canadians have historically been noted for their politeness. We are also known for being the wrong ones to fight in a war. The boys who stormed Juno beach did not make the furthest inland advance of all the D Day landing parties by remembering to be charitable.

It is not about blame. It is about risk.

Treat people well in the grocery store. Bring out their best. But when you encounter one of a group that collectively wishes your entire country harm, recognize them for the hostile risk that they are.

There is a 68% chance they did not thing to stop Trump from being elected. That is close enough to all of them for me to hold the group collectively accountable.
