The idea was proposed by two Democrats, so you know it has zero chance in this administration. We couldn’t even get our student loans forgiven.

We know it works. Why the pilot? Just fucking do it. They managed to do it during COVID. If we’re going to spend all this money anyway why the hell not. 7.2 trillion a year. It’ll cause inflation, sure. But there are advantages to devaluing currency as well.

“We” don’t know it works. Read these comments, they’re full of hand-waving pseudo economics that assume perfectly spherical landlords.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. My criticism is against the anti-UBI people making oversimplified theoretical arguments as if it’s never been tested.

Word, yeah no I mean I genuinely think we should do it. It would cost about that figure though - and we’d have to either print money or tax the shit out of the rich and corporations. But since we added 2 trillion to the deficit this year already it’s my genuine opinion: why the hell not? A rising tide lifts all boats. It would have massive unstudied effects at a systemic level but what’s the worst that could happen? Social unrest? Already have it. Collapsing industrial supply chains? Check. Massive shifts in the economy? Already happening.
