Donald Trump says he “won’t be extorted” by Democrats to reopen the government, making clear that he has no plans to negotiate as the government shutdown will soon enter its sixth week.

In an interview on CBS’s “60 Minutes” that aired on Sunday, Trump said that Democrats who are demanding an extension in health care subsidies “have lost their way” and predicted that they will eventually capitulate to Republicans who have said they won’t negotiate until they vote to reopen the government.

“I think they have to,” Trump said. “And if they don’t vote, it’s their problem.”

Trump’s comments signal that the shutdown could continue to drag on for some time as federal workers, including air traffic controllers, are set to miss additional paychecks and as there is uncertainty over whether 42 million Americans who received federal food aid will be able to access the assistance. Senate Democrats have now voted 13 times against reopening the government, insisting that they need Trump and Republicans to negotiate with them first on an extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies that are set to expire at the end of the year.

I think a lot of people here think that riots will be some sort of end game that will remove Trump when it will actually be the next step in his plan to enact martial law and cancel elections.

they do not need an excuse, if they want martial law they will invent a reason like they did the last bunch of times. do not advocate for inaction

I agree they will invent a reason. I think this is them inventing a reason. I agree also that it shouldn’t be an argument for inaction. If it doesn’t happen over this it’ll happen over something else. It might as well be this. The more they can do whatever they want the worse things get.

Of course they need an excuse. They may have the house and supreme court in their pocket but there’s still the army and the rest of the world. If they would try to enact martial law out of nowhere the military leadership may simply refuse to enforce it and if they do, other countries will de-invest from US real quick and may even put some sanctions on the government.

Also, I’m not saying people shouldn’t do anything. I’m just saying consequences of some actions will be different than they imagine.

the last excuse was some nobody got car jacked, and instituted the lockdown of two cities. they do not need an excuse when they can manufacture one. the military leadership has not stepped in, and when there was a coup, they were also awol from their duties, waiting to see how things shook out. And currently other countries are scrambling to divest from the US real quick. the rest of the world will not help us.

He is expanding his bunker and is driven everywhere in one of the most armored limos on the planet.

Add on only doing indoors events (if he does any at all) and, yeah, assassins are pretty controlled.

Maybe some of the rank and file will get got but nobody cares about them. See: The Future Mrs vance’s dead ex husband.

This is a big country and millions of people outnumber the few oligarchs. Will he order the US military to kill millions of its citizens?

Yes. Obviously. Maybe not millions, but dictators usually make an example out ouf a few hundred thousand with such big atrocities that it acts as a deterrent

No, he’ll order his military to kill a few citizens to make his point that the rule of law is over, and 90% will fall in line. The 10% will become the new “terrorists” that Kash Patel’s FBI hunts and imprisons or kills as continued examples, or he’ll start a war and send them in as fodder.

He’s trying to be Putin or even Kim Jong Un. He doesn’t need his military to suppress all rebellion, just to protect him from the consequences of his actions while he enjoys the privileges of power. That’s much easier.

History shows that they are really into killing and raping innocent citizen because a rich guy tells them to. What makes you think they care? A lot of them are even brown, win win
